Tension Pile Load Tests
Pile tension load testing or pile pull-out test enables measurement of displacement as a pile is pulled out of the ground. These piles are being loaded in tension using various loading configurations. The piles shall have necessary structural strength to transmit the loads imposed on it, ultimately to the soil. In case of uplift, the structural capacity of the pile, that is, under tension should also be considered. The uplift capacity of a pile is given by sum of the frictional resistance and the weight of the pile.
Test Procedure:
The tested pile top reinforcement bars to be welded in a the centre of a reaction beam which is rested on reaction system such as concrete blocks/reaction piles. Two hydraulic jacks to be on the top of the reaction system to provide an uplift force to the tested pile, and the load is applied in increments and the consequent displacements shall be measured as per the case of a vertical load test. Some of the piles have extensiometers and strain gauges installed at the pile top. All sensors may be logged electronically to a computer and provide graphical information during the test.
